services and what you can expect
I currently offer individual, couples, and group therapy services for children, adolescents and adults both in person and virtually.
Therapy for adults
Individual therapy with adults is a powerful thing. The therapy space, both in person and virtual, is very important to providing a safe space for exploration and growth. My goal as your therapist is to create an atmosphere where you feel comfortable and safe to talk about anything and everything that is important to you. This might look very different from client to client, so if you would like to talk more about what therapy can look like, feel free to reach out to me.
Therapy for adolescents
Under the law in California, adolescents who are 12 years old or older and who are able to understand what they are entering into are able to consent to their own therapy. This is not always necessary, and it is always best to have parents on board if possible, but because of their age, adolescents tend to have more autonomy in their therapy.
In my practice, I strive to make every adolescent feel as though they have a safe space that is all for them, but that parents/caregivers also know that there is an open invitation for collaboration when it is safe and helpful to do so.
If you are an adolescent or a parent and would like more information about what therapy in adolescence can look like, I am happy to talk further with you.
therapy for young children
Sometimes I will hear parents/caregivers say “this just looks like play.” To this I respond “that’s because it is play!” Because of the developmental stages that young children are at, play is often times their best form of communication and processing. it is their way of learning about and understanding the world.
In my practice, I use evidence based play therapy and art therapy to support children in processing trauma, learning new skills, and incorporating coping skills. Sometimes it might look like just play, but that is because play is the medium that all children understand!
Since the nature of therapy with children relies heavily on play, in person sessions are preferred. However, each child is different and sometimes telehealth is sufficient, so I will collaborate with you more on how to best support your child.
Couples therapy
Relationships can be a lot to navigate and learning the skills necessary for a happy, healthy relationship can be challenging. Whether the relationship is new and trying to find its path forward, or the couple is just ready the have time dedicated to supporting their relationship and working through their challenges, couples therapy can be a great option.
My ultimate goal in couples therapy is to create a space where the couple feels as though they can both be supported in what they want and need from the relationship. By focussing on improving communication, recognizing each persons physiology, and identifying emotions that are present in the relationship, a couple can then build toward better conflict management and higher levels of intimacy.
If interested or if you have any questions about couples therapy, I am happy to talk with you further about your unique concerns and goals for the relationship.
Group Therapy
My philosophy on facilitating group therapy is that safety is the most important factor. When there is safety, group therapy can be an incredibly powerful experience for the members. It offers clients the opportunity to learn from other people’s stories, provide support to their fellow group members, and to process their own experiences in a group of people who typically have had similar life experiences. In addition to this, it can also present an affordable alternative to individual therapy and therefor may be more accessible to some.
Every group is a little bit different, so if you are interested in group therapy, I am happy to share more about how each individual group runs. You can find more information about the groups offered on the Groups page!
